Never Shout Never at the Showbox 10-19-2010 (concert photography blog)

Christofer Drew Ingle – known as the performer “Never Shout Never” (the band is “The Shout”) – came into town last week to a sold out(and lined up around the corner) throng of teeny bopping fans – yes, the average age was like, oh, 13? I was easily the oldest non parent there!

Was also the first go round with new 15mm 2.8 fisheye lens – so all in all a fun night!

Concert Photography: Noise for the Needy 2010 – don’t forget the crowd shots!

For the third year in a row, I made it a point to photograph a couple of the shows sponsored by the Noise for the Needy Festival. Catch images / blogs from 2008 & 2009. The Festival this year was supporting “Teen Feed” – as always another great organization that does so much good. It’s great seeing so many musicians, music lovers, and volunteers come out for the events hosted at various clubs all over the city. I volunteered this year for the two shows at Neumo’s 6/11 & 6/12…featuring The Album Leaf, Delta Spirit, Kinsky, Baths, Ezra Furman and the Harpoons, & Romany Rye.

As I as volunteering as a photographer this year for NFTN – one of my photo responsiblities was to take photos of the crowd…not always the easiest in some of the darker venues, particularly when not using a flash…but now and then something interesting occurs, the light is just right, or someone makes an interesting pose…

My favorite image from shows, is this one, all bathed in a bit of a green/cyan wash, w/the NFTN signage prominently in the background…if this isn’t representative of the event, I don’t know what is – though, given that I have no idea who the green dude is, it will never officially be, other than from this observatory editorial viewpoint…and hey, it’s not just the hulk that looks good in green;)

Monsters of Folk rock, or rather sway the Paramount…

They blew into town…like the reigning kings of the “it” music genre…the “Monsters of Folk” as they have branded themselves – Conor Oberst, Jim James, M. Ward, and Mike Mogis… They filled the Paramount Theatre, October 15th with their unique and powerfully heart felt musical stylings, illustrated by the vibrant colors you see here…it was a pleasure to shoot…amongst a bevvy of other Seattle shooters…great show…

Debbie & Dominic save the date

I shot my friends Debbie & Dominic this last June…

They had just gotten engaged this last Spring, and wanted some images to send out on a “save the date” magnet…

I thought, great idea…

To know them, you realize how fun they are…they bring out the very best in each other…love them!

Anywho, we went out on the town, we wanted to get some shots that had them and something of a “Seattle” local flavor…

Compositionally, I was charged with getting something that would fit into the format of the magnet…ie something that was them to the left, with space to the right…so we worked to that.

There is one image that they are more centered with the skyline in the background, that I just love…There are several good shots, they were lot’s of fun to shoot…don’t tell them, but they may get a wedding present featuring one of the images from this day;)

The one ending up on the magnet, is in front of this gum wall…it was one of those “throw away” shots of them goofing around, and Dom making a face…but to know them, it’s totally perfect!

I absolutely love that they chose this one…there is something about people that don’t take themselves too seriously, that is very real.

Yosemite …for the first time!

oFunny enough, I JUST finally Yosemite…

This is notable as, my mom lives in Fresno, and I fly into Fresno-Yosemite International airport when I visit, lol…literally she lived about 90 miles…yet we hadn’t made it up there on my visits until now…

We went and had lunch at the lodge…a few images from our trek…and oh my, the high road is really curvy!

Weathered Roses…

This past weekend, was in Cottage Grove, OR visiting my Grandma…

She, at 89 still cultivates gorgeous flowers including roses…

I like to take pictures in her garden when I visit…she loves the perfect images of the rose as it is meant to be…I love the imperfect, the weathered, the wilted, the textures, etc, with the light hitting them just so…

Here are my favorite weathered roses…dreamy, creamy, blurry and a little bit like strawberry ice cream!
